What to Know

1. All modern Windows operating systems include DirectX, so you probably won't ever need to install it manually.
2. Download DirectX from Microsoft's download page. Open the dxwebsetup.exe file and complete the installation.
3. You can check which version you have with the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

If you have Windows 10, then you already have the latest version of DirectX installed. Not all versions of Windows can run the latest versions of DirectX.

Only ever download software from the manufacturer's official website e.g. DirectX software should only be downloaded from Microsoft. And always double check that the website address is genuine. If in doubt, get an IT professional to verify it.

Follow these steps to use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to check your DirectX version: In the Search box on the toolbar, enter dxdiag. Then select dxdiag from the list of results. In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, select the System tab, then check the DirectX version under System Information.
