FYI is a common abbreviation of for your information. The term, originally a wire service abbreviation used by journalists, is commonly used in email, instant messaging and other messages to indicate an informational message or explanatory statement not suggesting any action, or requiring a response.
There's nothing impolite about using FYI. It's much easier than writing out “for your information.” It's 15 fewer characters-plus two spaces. Everyone likes shorter names and abbreviations. That's especially true for tweets.
You could try: “Just so that you're aware…” or “In case this is relevant to you…” Overall, though, “FYI” does tend to be widely accepted as a polite phrase that doesn't require a paragraph or even a sentence to convey.
